PREVENTING CANCER
With all of the talk that goes on in the media, the medical community, and among the public—whenever the topic of discussion turns to the subject of the disease Cancer—all anybody can talk about is: easing symptoms, making patients feel better, curing the darn thing once it has already begun. But no one ever mentions PREVENTION!
I think it is about high time we started rethinking the way we view cells. Imagine that cells in the body are like young children, who need to be taught right from wrong if they are to grow up properly. When a kid comes into the world and starts exploring, we’re constantly telling him, “No Billy, you can’t do that!”, “Get down from there!”, “Don’t tease the dog!”, “Sit up straight, and finish your dinner!”, No, no, no! And what happens when Billy doesn’t listen or learn? That’s right, you guessed it. He grows up disrespecting authority, dropping out of school, running with the wrong crowd, maybe even turning to criminal activity at times.
Well, think of cells in much the same way. When a cell is first born, it is like a young child who doesn’t know any better. It needs to be shown the correct way to live, so that it doesn’t get out of control by doing things like causing infection, turning malignant, overcrowding and stealing food and other resources from neighboring cells, etc.
Here’s something to consider: Suppose scientists could one day figure out how to “self-train” the immune system, so that cells can be guided and taught how to ‘grow up into decent, law-abiding citizens of the body’, and not become troublemakers in the first place!
Even if this wouldn’t work, it’s an interesting idea to ponder—even in theory—don’t you think? I’m just saying… :)
OUT OF ONE, COMES MANY
Here is another idea; one that is sure to totally blow your mind! I am no medical expert; the following is an opinion piece.
Do you know why Cancer is so difficult to fight? Because it has the potential to affect every system, everywhere. We all have only one body, and the disease reaches into every nook and cranny, eventually. In other words, it is virtually impossible to isolate any one region, due to the fact it is all over the place. But what if we could convince cells that they are separate from all others, and make them think we are showering attention on them only? (Please bear with me; I'm trying to explain something here.)
If we could find a way to make each and every cell in the body believe they are the only ones we care about, they would not become jealous and fight with one another...steal one another's resources...try to crowd out their space...kill one another to survive, etc.
We should aim to implement a system, whereby we create for all of the cells in the body, an imaginary environment which says, "I am the only one here! I deserve all the attention and goodies! No one can stop me and I can do whatever I want because this one body I inhabit has its own brain...and heart...and muscular-skeletal structure...and its own IMMUNE SYSTEM!"
I was just thinking that if we could find a way to make each and every cell in the body feel special...then the disease might be easier to micromanage, and every single malignant cell in the tumor can be killed, SEPARATELY, AND YET SIMULTANEOUSLY!!
I hope you understand the point I was trying to get across.
CANCER GETS TOO MUCH ATTENTION
I have something else to say about Cancer.
It seems to me that things such as Cancer, Diabetes and Heart Disease get all the attention these days. Way too much, in fact. And, as a result, it gets more than its fair share of funding (for research, and the like).
I will have you know, that there are many other lesser-known disorders out there, which are no less devastaing to those families dealing with them. My mother died of Lupus, and I have Crohn’s disease and one kidney. Miley Cyrus has a condition called Tachycardia (and I used to have it, as well); her heart rate could spin out of control one day, and she could die.
There appears to be an unfair balance in society in the attention that is paid to for some of the world’s most ‘popular’ diseases, versus rare ones which few people have even ever heard of. Where is the honor and respect for people like us? We deserve to be mentioned, too!
Just…think about it, okay? Peace out! <3
Some people may hate me--and may even wish to silence me--over this, but it needs to be said.
Do you suppose that there actually already is a cure for Cancer, and the public is not supposed to know about it?
Meaning, big pharmaceutical companies and medical associations--such as the American Cancer Society--have a financial interest in NOT curing the disease (or perhaps, not letting us in on the secret), so they can continue to make money off our misfortune.
Open your eyes and wake up, people! Health care is big business, remember that!
